American Express Middle East has released the findings of its Trendex Survey*, offering a detailed look at travel, shopping, and entertainment trends for the upcoming winter and spring holidays in the UAE. The survey highlights a strong demand for luxury and tailored travel experiences among UAE consumers, along with a growing preference for experiential gifts. Here’s what’s out:
Luxury in travel:
As the holiday season approaches, 97% of UAE consumers are planning to travel during the upcoming winter and spring holidays, with an average spend of AED 7,764. The main reasons for travel include leisure (61%), discovering new destinations (56%), and visiting family and friends (48%). While traveling, many consumers are willing to spend more on personalized experiences (78%), private transportation (74%), and first-class or luxury accommodations (66%).
Gifting tradition:
Experiences are becoming increasingly popular as gifts. While physical presents remain desirable, there is a strong shift toward experiential gifting, with 74% of UAE consumers surveyed preferring to receive a live experience or event rather than a physical gift. The most popular experiential gifts include entertainment (68%), travel (66%), and food or beverage experiences (56%), highlighting a preference for creating memories and shared moments. When it comes to physical gifts, UAE consumers tend to favor sentimental items, such as handmade gifts or family heirlooms.
Festive celebrations:
This holiday season, the focus is on togetherness and celebration. The survey shows that respondents are prioritizing time spent with loved ones, with over 52% strongly agreeing that the winter and spring holidays inspire them to be with family and friends. Additionally, 62% plan to host gatherings at home, and 48% aim to invite family and friends for extended holiday stays. When it comes to activities, 58% of respondents are planning to visit holiday festivals and markets, reflecting a strong desire for immersive and engaging experiences.
