Spain is grappling with a severe crisis as the country recovers from devastating floods that have claimed over 150 lives. The region has experienced unprecedented rainfall, and in just some hours, it led to widespread destruction. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate missing individuals and provide aid to affected communities.
Social media is flooded with images of cars, trees, and buildings submerged in water. Many survivors are left homeless and heartbroken, as they navigate loss.
The unexpected situation began on Tuesday. The Spanish Minister for Territorial Policy Angel Víctor Torres said, “There are dozens of missing people. We cannot confirm that number. But it is clear that as more days pass and they do not appear, the more likely it is that we will have no hope of finding them alive,” reports CNN.
Reports also suggest that Valencia experienced its heaviest rainfall in 28 years. While autumn rain is common in Spain’s eastern and southern regions, this year’s downpour was exceptionally severe. It also happens to be a popular tourist destination but has seen a halt in all its activities ever since.
