Laser technology in Dubai is on the rise. Advanced laser therapies in aesthetic applications are gaining significant traction in the UAE, as more people seek to explore what suits their skin best – given the region’s unique climate conditions. To gain a deeper understanding of the latest innovations in laser technology, we speak to Dr. Ameen Abdulmajeed Alawadhi, President of the Bahrain Dermatology Association, Consultant Dermatologist, and Dermatopathologist at Shaikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi.
He says, “There is an emphasis on laser technology not only in Dubai but globally. I’ve practiced dermatology in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and the US, and laser technology is becoming a widely used tool. It is employed not only for cosmetic purposes but also for medical treatments. In dermatology, laser is one of the major treatment options, although cosmetic procedures remain the most widely used application.”
He continues to explain why there is a widespread use of laser technology in the market: “It is due to its safety and high efficacy. The availability of these technologies has also increased significantly. From a practical standpoint, many laser treatments no longer require a physician to perform them. Medical treatments for conditions like birthmarks still require a physician to lead the treatment, but for hair removal, a physician isn’t always necessary. As a result, laser treatments have become widely available at much lower costs.”
Dr. Alawadhi also emphasizes that while laser hair removal is regulated in Dubai, with every center required to operate under the supervision of a licensed physician, the availability of quality products and proper training has made these procedures more affordable and accessible to the general population.
“In the last 15 years, despite significant inflation in other sectors, the cost of laser treatments has decreased significantly. Today, less than 20% of the population undergoes regular laser procedures,” he adds.
