Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a transformative road network expansion project aimed at cutting travel times by up to 80% for residents of Nadd Hessa, Al Awir 1, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3. The initiative will improve entry and exit points across major roads, enhancing access and capacity in high-traffic areas.
Key project highlights include:
- Nadd Hessa: A two-lane road with a capacity for 6,000 vehicles per hour, serving over 300,000 residents in nearby communities, including Dubai Silicon Oasis. Travel times will drop from 138 seconds to 37 seconds at key junctions.
- Al Awir 1: A 7.5km new road connecting the area to Emirates Road will double capacity to accommodate 3,000 vehicles per hour.
- Al Barsha South: Enhancements to Hessa Street will increase traffic capacity by 50%, reducing signal wait times from 4 minutes to 1 minute and benefitting 75,000 residents.
- Wadi Al Safa 3: Upgraded roadworks will reduce travel distances by 10km, cutting travel time from 10 minutes to just 2 minutes.
Additionally, Al Warqa will see significant improvements, including an 8km expanded internal road network and a 16km cycling track linking to nearby routes. These upgrades are expected to reduce travel times from 20 minutes to 3.5 minutes and boost capacity by 30% on Al Warqa 1 Street.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, emphasized that the improvements will benefit over 400,000 residents, reflecting Dubai’s commitment to enhancing mobility and infrastructure across the emirate.
