PM Modi Arrives In Brazil For G20 Summit On Second Leg Of Three-Nation Tour

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday to attend the 19th G20 Summit, marking the second leg of his three-nation visit. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced his arrival with a post on X, sharing pictures of PM Modi’s warm reception at the airport and stating, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the G20 Brazil Summit.”

India, as part of the G20 Troika along with Brazil and South Africa, will participate in key deliberations during the summit on November 18-19. Highlighting the significance of the event, PM Modi tweeted, “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to take part in the G20 Summit. I look forward to the summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders.”

This year’s G20 agenda, under Brazil’s presidency, builds upon India’s 2023 legacy, which achieved milestones such as the induction of the African Union as a permanent member and consensus on global issues like the Ukraine conflict. PM Modi remarked before his departure, “This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’”

A Glance at the Nigeria Visit

Before arriving in Brazil, PM Modi concluded a successful visit to Nigeria, where he engaged in bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and met with members of the Indian community. Notably, he was conferred Nigeria’s national award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), becoming the second foreign dignitary to receive this honor after Queen Elizabeth II.

Upcoming Historic Visit to Guyana

PM Modi’s three-nation tour will conclude with a visit to Guyana from November 19 to 21 at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This visit, the first by an Indian prime minister to Guyana in over five decades, aims to strengthen ties with the South American nation.

The trip underscores India’s commitment to global partnerships and its active role in shaping multilateral discussions on pressing global challenges.
