Starting November 25, the UAE is taking a step toward easing its ban on drone flights, which has been in place since January 2022. The Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the National Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Authority, the General Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant entities, announced a ‘partial phased lifting’ of the conditional ban on drone flight operations for companies – prioritizing the safety of airspace as well as the security and protection of individuals, society, and property.

During a recent press conference, Colonel Jamal Al Hosani, Director of the Air Support Department at the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Security Support, and Engineer Ammar Al Mazrouei, Director of the First Planning and Standards Department at the General Civil Aviation Authority, announced that the partial lifting of the drone flight ban will be implemented in phases and for only a particular set of people.

Under the first phase of this easing, only government entities and companies will be allowed to resume drone operations. They must ensure a controlled and safe reintroduction. Back in 2022, the Ministry imposed a ban on drone operations, and now this development comes after two years.

Experts believe it is seen as a positive move for the UAE, as the country continues to encourage innovation and technology while maintaining high safety standards in its airspace. Many have expressed excitement at the opportunity to showcase their skills once again. Several people in the UAE, who were previously using drones for professional purposes, are especially happy with this announcement, as it brings back the chance to continue their work.
