So much is happening around the UAE for the National Day weekend – events, offers, and shopping – there’s something for everyone. But wait, there’s no way the Kunafa Pistachio trend could be left behind. Adding to the excitement, Barakat introduces the Emirates Flag Juice Pop and Kunafa Pistachio Ice Cream Bites, a fusion dessert that combines the flavors of Kunafa and Pistachio into delightful frozen treats, a part of their ‘Fresh-Made in the UAE’ campaign, which honors local heritage, production, and sustainability. The limited-edition collection presents traditional Emirati flavors with a modern twist.
We learned more about the Kunafa Pistachio Ice Cream Bites, especially considering the trend seems never-ending in the UAE market. Kenneth D’Costa, Managing Director at Barakat explained: “This is offering a unique blend of flavors that brings the global sensation of Kunafa to a whole new level,” adding, “The launch of Kunafa Pistachio Ice Cream Bites is a delightful, bite-sized treat that puts a modern twist on the beloved Kunafa. This version combines pistachio ice cream coated in chocolate, topped with roasted Kunafa and pistachios.”
This comes under their recently introduced Froza, the UAE’s first artisanal ice cream crafted from fresh milk, cream, and real ingredients like fruits and nuts.
Also, given the shift in how UAE consumers approach food – gravitating toward “fresh-made” options that reflect the country’s rich heritage, Kenneth highlighted, “The UAE’s focus on innovation, especially through initiatives like the Innovation Lab by Khalifa Fund, is empowering Emirati entrepreneurs and students to contribute to the nation’s food security.”
He also shared that the Ghaf Smoothie and Ghaf Shot incorporate Ghaf leaf extract sustainably sourced by Ms. Salma Alzaabi, a young Emirati innovator from Ras Al Khaimah.
“The popularity and success of these products reflect a growing consumer interest in fresh-made food that honors the UAE’s cultural heritage. These offerings celebrate traditional ingredients and the rich culinary history that has sustained generations, resonating deeply with the people of the UAE. As the Ghaf tree is the national symbol of the UAE, these products have sparked significant interest not only among UAE Nationals but also expats,” D’Costa noted.
