Starting May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer support iPhones running iOS versions older than 15.1. This change will affect users with older iPhone models such as the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, who will no longer be able to use the app on their devices.
Currently, WhatsApp works on iPhones running iOS 12 and later, as well as Android devices running Android 5.0 or newer. However, as part of its effort to stay current with the latest technology, WhatsApp will stop supporting older operating systems. Android users will not be impacted by this update.
For iPhone users, this update means that if your device cannot be updated to iOS 15.1 or later, you will need to upgrade to a newer iPhone to continue using WhatsApp. Users will be given advance notice of the change, with several reminders to upgrade their devices or update to the latest iOS version, if possible.
WhatsApp explained that it regularly assesses which devices and software have the fewest users and are the oldest to ensure the app runs smoothly with the latest security features and improvements, as mentioned on its website. So, if you own an older iPhone, it may be time to plan an upgrade to continue using WhatsApp after May 2025.
