Dubai is bringing back the 30% tax on alcoholic beverages starting January 1, 2025, according to an email sent by alcohol retailer African + Eastern to restaurants and bars. The Dubai Government informed that the tax will apply to all alcohol purchases from that date onward, and establishments are required to ensure compliance with the new fee.

The mail read, “Please note, Dubai Government have informed us the 30% municipality tax on alcoholic beverage purchases will be reinstated effective January 2025.”

This move follows a temporary suspension of the tax, which was initially removed in January 2023 and extended through 2024. The reintroduction of the 30% tax could affect pricing at bars, pubs, restaurants, and hotels across Dubai. A restaurateur shared that the tax was expected to be 15%, but it has now been confirmed to return to the previous 30%, reports Khaleej Times.

With the New Year approaching and plenty to explore in the food and beverage industry, this move adds a new dynamic to the market.
