A Dubai court sentenced four Pakistani men to two years in prison each and imposed a collective fine of AED1 million for impersonating police officers, kidnapping, and robbing two Indian nationals. The case, which unfolded in March 2024, was handled under the jurisdiction of Al Rafaa Police Station.

The crime began with a Pakistani driver, who worked for the victims, conspiring with three other Pakistani men and an unidentified fugitive. The driver informed the gang of the victims’ movements and the significant amount of cash they were carrying.

On the morning of the incident, the victims were en route to Dubai’s Gold Souk when the gang, driving a black Kia, intercepted them near Al Mankhool. Two gang members, pretending to be police officers, forced the victims into separate vehicles. They were driven to Al Nahda, where the gang robbed them of AED1 million, two mobile phones and two wallets. The victims were then released and promptly reported the crime to Dubai authorities.

Dubai Police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of five men, including the driver and another individual alleged to have conspired with the gang. One of the accused was revealed as the operation’s mastermind while two gang members impersonated police officers and executed the robbery. The fifth accused, a Pakistani national, denied involvement and was found not guilty due to a lack of evidence. Testimonies from other accused corroborated his claims of non-participation.

The court found sufficient evidence against the four men directly involved but exonerated the fifth accused.

The four convicted faced a sentencing of two years imprisonment each, a total find of AED1 million and will face deportation upon completing their prison sentences.
