A man was sentenced to two months in prison for physically assaulting a Dubai Police officer, resulting in multiple injuries, media reports said Friday (December 27).
The incident took place on March 29 of this year, when the defendant arrived at Naif Police Station around 9:40 pm, accompanied by another individual. The companion accused the defendant – who has not been named – of threatening and harassing him and his family.
Defendant Refused To Comply With Officer
Both men visited the police station to resolve a dispute, where the defendant was directed to the investigation room for questioning.
However, he refused to comply, loudly asserting his innocence and refusing to provide identification. The officer in charge attempted to calm the situation, asking for the defendant’s personal details to confirm his identity, but the defendant continued to decline.
The situation escalated when the defendant became more agitated, lying on the ground and screaming while still refusing to share his information. He then stormed out of the office, and as the officer tried to escort him back to the investigation room, the defendant violently resisted. He kicked the officer and struggled forcefully, causing the officer to sustain injuries, including a damaged little finger and a wound to his right ear.
Defendant Pleaded Guilty
The officers eventually subdued and restrained the defendant. During the trial at the Dubai Criminal Court, the defendant was charged with resisting a public official with force and causing injuries while an officer was performing his duties. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was handed over prison time.
Following his prison sentence, the defendant will be deported.
