In a landmark year for the logistics industry, delivery service providers in Saudi Arabia recorded over 290 million orders in 2023, signaling a powerful shift in consumer habits and digital transformation across the Kingdom. According to the Transport General Authority (TGA), this surge marks a major milestone driven largely by the rapid adoption of smart delivery apps.

Riyadh led the way, accounting for 45.3% of all orders, followed by Mecca (22.7%), the Eastern Province (15%), and Medina (4.3%). With over 200 million successful deliveries completed last year alone, the sector continues to show steady, consistent growth.

More than 50 licensed delivery companies now operate across Saudi Arabia, a testament to the booming demand and expanding market. The TGA emphasized that delivery apps have become an “essential part of daily life,” reflecting how deeply digital convenience is now embedded in Saudi society.

But the momentum isn’t slowing down. In a groundbreaking move, Saudi Arabia is set to launch drone delivery services later this year. California-based drone company Matternet has become the first to receive official approval from the Kingdom’s civil aviation authority. The company’s zero-emission drones will soon take to the skies, providing ultra-fast delivery options to businesses and residents in Riyadh.

The introduction of drone logistics is poised to usher in a new era of innovation, further enhancing delivery speed, sustainability, and access in urban environments.
