Aster Hospital in Mankhool has unveiled its Robotic Orthopedic Centre, marking a milestone in orthopedic care across the UAE. The launch introduces the ROSA® Robotic Knee Joint Replacement System, a surgical technology that enhances precision, improves recovery times, and personalizes care for patients undergoing joint replacement procedures.
This facility is the first robotic orthopedic surgery center within Aster Hospitals in the UAE and strengthens the healthcare provider’s focus on innovation and technology-driven treatment.
The center was officially inaugurated by Olympic boxing icon and former Indian MP Mary Kom, who praised Aster’s commitment to medical advancement and patient-centered care.
The ROSA® system assists surgeons throughout the procedure—from pre-operative planning to intra-operative execution—by using real-time data and advanced 3D modeling. Unlike traditional methods, the system uses CT scans to create a personalized map of the patient’s knee, enabling highly precise implant placement and reducing the likelihood of surgical errors.
“This is a major leap forward in orthopedic care,” said Dr. Malathi Arshanapalai, Group Chief Medical Officer at Aster DM Healthcare. “With robotic-assisted surgery, we are delivering faster recoveries, better outcomes, and greater accuracy in knee and hip replacements. This innovation is aligned with our vision to provide world-class, accessible healthcare.”
The new technology addresses many of the limitations of traditional joint replacement surgeries by offering:
- Smaller incisions and reduced tissue damage
- Lower risk of infection and nerve damage
- Faster post-operative recovery and reduced hospital stays
- Improved joint stability and implant longevity
The global knee replacement market is expected to reach USD 17.35 billion by 2034, fueled by an aging population and increasing cases of osteoarthritis. Robotic-assisted surgeries are becoming a key solution to meet growing demand, offering more consistent results and quicker rehabilitation.
Dr. Ranjith Narayan, Specialist Orthopaedics at Aster Mankhool, added: “The ROSA® system allows for a tailored surgical approach based on each patient’s unique anatomy. By improving accuracy and minimizing complications, it significantly enhances patient outcomes and mobility.”
Aster Hospital Mankhool, recently ranked No. 4 on Newsweek’s list of the World’s Best Hospitals in the UAE, now offers robotic assistance for both knee and hip replacement surgeries. This launch reflects the hospital’s ongoing mission to integrate innovation into every aspect of patient care, helping raise the standard of orthopedic treatment across the region.
