A mild earthquake with a magnitude of 2.3 struck Masafi, UAE, early on Sunday, September 1, according to the UAE’s National Seismic Network operated by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). The tremor, recorded at 7:53 a.m. UAE time, occurred at a shallow depth of 1.6 kilometers.

Residents in the surrounding areas reportedly felt the tremors, but the NCM quickly assured the public that the quake did not have any significant impact on the region. “The tremors were minor, and there is no cause for concern,” the NCM confirmed, emphasizing the safety of residents.

This recent seismic activity follows a series of minor earthquakes in the region over the past few months. On August 18, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded near the coast of Dibba at 12:14 p.m. UAE time. Earlier, on June 8, a 2.8 magnitude earthquake was also detected in Masafi at 11:01 p.m.

Additionally, on May 29, the UAE experienced two minor quakes in the Oman Sea region. The first, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake, struck near the coast of Ras Al Khaimah at 12:12 a.m., followed by a second tremor of 2.8 magnitude at 1:53 a.m.

Seismology experts have consistently reassured UAE residents that these minor earthquakes are not unusual for the region and that the country’s infrastructure is well-prepared to handle such low-magnitude events. Despite the occasional detection of tremors, there is no significant threat to public safety.
