A Dubai-based startup has unveiled groundbreaking EVs, which were initially introduced during COP28 in December 2023. The vehicle, which is priced at AED70,000 onwards, makes it significantly cheaper than newly manufactured EVs, which typically start at above AED100,000.

The ReCar.03 is an electric sedan built by repurposing a Toyota Camry, converting a gasoline-powered vehicle into an electric one.

The technology behind the ReCar involves retaining the original vehicle’s body and chassis; this results in a 30% reduction in manufacturing costs and 80% less production time compared to new EVs.

The company behind ReCar is Peec Mobility, which is committed to offering an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional EVs.

According to the company’s spokesperson, the ReCar boasts of a range of up to 300 km on a full charge and features an interior crafted from recyclable materials, along with an updated human-machine interface.

Peec Mobility’s goal is to contribute to the UAE’s Net Zero initiative by repurposing old gasoline-powered vehicles, thereby reducing carbon emissions.

The first batch of ReCar is slated to hit the roads by Q2 2025. The goal is to cut down emissions by 23% from the transportation sector by 2030 by converting 5% of existing vehicles annually.

According to the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), the number of EVs in Dubai has increased to more than 30,000 as of April 2024, doubling from the previous year.

The UAE is making a substantial push towards sustainable transportation by targeting a 50% electric vehicle penetration by 2050.
