The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced the issuance of treasury bills (T-bills) worth EGP 50 billion through two auctions held on Thursday, 3 October 2024. This move comes just ahead of the national holiday commemorating the 6th of October War Victory anniversary.
Details of the T-Bill Issuance
The first tranche of the auction involved EGP 30 billion in T-bills with a maturity period of 182 days, set to mature on 8 April 2025. The second tranche, valued at EGP 20 billion, has a longer tenor of 364 days, maturing on 7 October 2025.
Earlier in the week, on 29 September, the CBE conducted a similar auction with the same total amount, further reflecting the bank’s ongoing efforts to manage the country’s debt and financing needs.
Holiday Closure
In observance of the 6th of October holiday, the central bank will suspend operations on Sunday, 6 October, and will resume normal operations on Monday, 7 October 2024.
