The UAE Ministry of Interior has announced a new initiative that will automatically open traffic files for residents as soon as they turn 18. As part of the move, young residents will receive an SMS notification informing them that a traffic file has been created for them, making the process smoother and more efficient.

This initiative is one of several updates under the ‘Zero Government Bureaucracy’ programme, aimed at streamlining services and cutting down administrative processes. The programme introduces 11 new services related to vehicle and driving licence management, designed to significantly reduce service times.

Key Updates to the Electronic Services System

Among the key changes introduced are:

  • Automatic Parking Permits: People of determination will now automatically receive parking permits, eliminating the need for manual applications.
  • Digital Licence Management: Services such as issuing replacements for lost or damaged digital plates and changing ownership data have been simplified with digital notifications.
  • Digital Integration: Individuals can now store their driving licences and vehicle ownership documents in their Apple Wallet, enhancing accessibility.
  • Licence Exchange: The process of exchanging driving licences from other countries has been made easier.
  • Direct Ownership Issuance: Vehicle ownership documentation will now be issued directly from car dealerships, streamlining the process for buyers.
  • Digital Transfers in Abu Dhabi: The activation of digital transfer certificates is currently being tested in Abu Dhabi, further improving the vehicle registration process.
  • Electronic Licence Adoption: The mandatory printing and delivery of driving and vehicle ownership licences has been cancelled, with the electronic version being fully adopted.
  • Unified System for Vehicle Ownership: A single system has been introduced to digitally transfer or write off vehicle ownership.

These changes are designed to enhance convenience for residents, reduce service times, and align with the UAE’s broader digital transformation efforts in government services.
