Swiss watchmaking icon Patek Philippe has launched its first new collection in 25 years, named the Cubitus line, marking a significant moment in the luxury watch industry.
The launch comes as luxury watch prices have largely stabilized, following a period of strong demand driven by younger investors and collectors who began investing in high-end timepieces during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the market for secondhand luxury watches has recently seen a decline in prices.
The Cubitus collection features three models — two in steel casings and one in platinum. According to a press release, the collection is designed to offer a fresh take on the “elegant sporty” style. The steel models include a two-toned version with rose gold for a vintage feel and a pure steel variant, both of which reflect the sporty inspiration behind the line. They also showcase vibrant, colorful dials.
The third model stands out with a platinum casing and includes advanced features such as a large-format date, a moon phase display, and a day-of-the-week dial.
Patek Philippe has incorporated cutting-edge technology into the new collection, including an ultrathin self-winding mini rotor and an instantaneous-jump mechanism that ensures seamless alignment of the different displays within 18 milliseconds. The brand has also filed six patent applications for these innovations.
The Cubitus collection is accompanied by a set of matching cufflinks, crafted in white gold with a design that reflects the shape of the watch cases.
Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is considered part of the “Holy Trinity” of Swiss watchmakers, alongside Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin.
The Cubitus line is the brand’s first new collection since 1999, when it released the Twenty~4, a collection aimed at young, active, and modern women.
