23 Nobel Prize-winning economists have signed a letter certifying Democratic candidate Kamala Harris’ economic plan as “vastly superior.” The group of academics includes two of the most recent laureates, Simon Johnson and Daron Acemoglu of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The letter, procured by CCN, reveals that Harris has received a “symbolic sanction” on her proposed economic blueprint for the US.
The letter reads, “While each of us has different views on the particulars of various economic policies, we believe that, overall, Harris’ economic agenda will improve our nation’s health, investment, sustainability, resilience, employment opportunities, and fairness and be vastly superior to the counterproductive economic agenda of Donald Trump.” According to the primary signatory, Joseph Stiglitz, an American Keynesian economist, former president Trump threatens “the rule of law and economic and political certainty.”
The economist’s letter points to fundamental cracks in Trump’s economic policies, which are governed by stringent tariffs and relaxed taxation laws. The 23 signatories spotlight the counterproductivity of such policies, deeming them inflationary.
However, recent polls indicate that Americans favor Trump over Harris for economic development. A survey by The Financial Times found that 45% of Americans prefer Trump for financial decisions, while only 37% support Harris. Similarly, a CNBC survey revealed that 42% of respondents trust Trump to provide economic benefits, compared to 29% for Harris.
Keeping this ground reality in mind, the economics laureates stand firm on their expert analysis that “Harris’s policies will result in a stronger economic performance.”
