The UAE government has announced new traffic regulations that will be effective March 29, 2025. One of the most significant changes is lowering the minimum age for obtaining a driver’s license from 18 to 17 years old.
In addition to this, the new rules aim to reduce noise pollution and improve road safety. Residents will no longer be allowed to use vehicles that make excessive noise, and honking within city limits will be restricted to emergencies only. Pedestrians are also prohibited from crossing roads with speed limits exceeding 80 kilometers per hour.
To ensure safety and compliance, the government has announced stricter penalties for violations such as driving under the influence of intoxication, and a permit is needed for commuting hazardous materials or unusual loads.
The new regulations address the growing use of self-driving and electric vehicles. The government has outlined procedures for inspecting, registering, licensing, and renewing these vehicles, as well as mechanisms for testing new technologies in the automotive industry.
These changes reflect the UAE’s commitment to keeping pace with the evolving transportation landscape and ensuring safety and well-being, reports Khaleej Times.
