5 new bridges to ease traffic

A ray of hope for daily commuters who tackle traffic – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has approved a major upgrade for the Trade Centre Roundabout, one of the city’s busiest intersections. This AED696.414 million project will involve building five new bridges spanning 5,000 meters in total to improve traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and five other main streets.

The project will ease traffic flow in these areas:

  • Jumeirah and Al Satwa: Smooth traffic movement from 2nd December Street to Al Majles Street and Al Mustaqbal Street, which serves the Dubai World Trade Centre and Dubai International Financial Centre.
  • Deira: Improved traffic flow from Sheikh Rashid Street to Deira.
  • Sheikh Zayed Road: Efficient traffic movement from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street via the upper-level bridge.

Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, said “The Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project is part of a broader development plan that also includes the Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project, which will be awarded this November.”

What is majorly important is that this project will double the intersection’s capacity, cut the delay time from 12 minutes to 90 seconds, and shorten the travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from 6 minutes to just 1 minute.

Mattar believes that DWTC hosts major international exhibitions like GITEX, Arabian Travel Market, Arab Health, and Gulfood, and the project will improve accessibility to the venue.
