Monday kicked off with hustle as Sharjah residents experienced heavy traffic congestion on the route leading towards Sahara Centre, Dubai-Sharjah highway. The incident, which occurred in the wee hours of the day, saw a block in key areas including Al Nahda, Al Qusais, and Mamzar, leading to a delay of 2.5 hours in the travel.
A road accident near Al Qiyadah Metro Station, which occurred around 8:30 am, led to traffic congestion on Al Ittihad Road. This disruption caused delays of up to an hour and a half until 9.45 am.
Local bus services were also affected, with drivers being forced to reroute their paths. Many passengers, including new residents unfamiliar with the area, faced inconvenience. Some opted to return home, while others requested to be dropped off at nearby Metro stations.
The traffic congestion typically worsens as commuters approach the Sharjah-Dubai border, where they often need to switch buses to reach their final destinations in areas like Business Bay, Dubai Media City, Tecom, Emaar, and JLT.
In no time, residents expressed their views on social media. On Reddit, one said that the traffic was unbearable, citing that work from home would have been a boon, whereas, another user also blamed school busses, that juggle in the web of so many other vehicles.
