This morning, Sheikh Zayed Road transformed into a neon spectacle as cycling enthusiasts and thousands gathered for the highly anticipated Dubai Ride 2024, one of the main events of the Dubai Fitness Challenge.
Social media platforms were flooded with photos and videos capturing the atmosphere. Riders of all ages and fitness levels shared their experiences, showcasing the event’s ability to unite the community and inspire a healthier lifestyle. We spoke to a few participants and learned that the event was a surreal experience.
“As a 4-year resident of Dubai, I’m constantly amazed by the city’s commitment to fitness and wellness. The Dubai Ride is a perfect example of this. It’s an incredible opportunity to challenge yourself, test your limits, and experience the thrill of cycling on one of the world’s most iconic roads. It’s truly inspiring and a surreal experience to see thousands of people come together to embrace a healthy lifestyle and celebrate Dubai’s vibrant community,” noted a Dubai resident.
We heard from Jibin Kollamparambil, who has been a part of Dubai Ride since 2020: “This is the 5th year, and this event has made me love Dubai even more. Many of my friends have been inspired to join the Dubai Ride and Fitness Challenge. We’re looking forward to the next, which is – Dubai Run, and this time, over 20 of my motorcycle friends will join as well.”
Igor, Russian, living in Dubai since 2022, said, “This is an amazing experience! This is my second time at an event like this. A unifying atmosphere and happy people around.” He remarked he nearly saw 5000 people around.
“This year, my whole family participated in a family-friendly 4km route around Downtown Dubai. It was an amazing experience as we got to ride and enjoy the scenic view of Burj Khalifa. It was an iconic event that we will always be looking forward to participate every year. Huge thanks to Dubai as we get to participate in this fun, safe, enjoyable, and amazing event,” said, Maricar Santos, another UAE resident.
The RTA also announced on Friday that some parts of Sheikh Zayed Road and nearby areas will be closed from 3:30 am to 10 am to make way for the Dubai Ride. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes like Al Mustaqbal Street, Al Wasl Road, and Al Khail Road. Adding to this, the Dubai Metro also operated for longer hours from 3 am to midnight, to help participants, visitors, and residents.
