In a move aimed at enhancing traffic safety and facilitating the movement of heavy vehicles, Abu Dhabi Mobility announced on Monday the removal of the minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road (E311).

Effective immediately, motorists traveling on the major artery will no longer be required to maintain a minimum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. This decision marks a reversal of a previous regulation implemented in April 2023, which mandated the 120 kmph minimum speed limit starting May 1, 2023, and carried an AED400 fine for violations.

According to the authority, this change is anticipated to foster improved traffic flow and create a safer driving environment for all road users, particularly those operating large trucks along the busy route.

The previous minimum speed requirement had posed challenges for heavier vehicles attempting to navigate the highway safely and efficiently.

This latest adjustment on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road follows closely on the heels of another safety-focused initiative by Abu Dhabi Mobility. Just days prior, authorities implemented a reduction in speed limits across several key highways in the emirate, including the Abu Dhabi-Sweihan Road (E20) and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11).

These recent measures underscore Abu Dhabi Mobility’s ongoing commitment to proactively address traffic flow and safety concerns on its road network, aiming to create a more streamlined and secure transportation system for all.

The removal of the minimum speed limit on E311 is expected to be welcomed by heavy vehicle operators and contribute to a more balanced and safer traffic environment on this vital highway.
