India’s Adani Group has acquired Air Works, the country’s largest private aviation MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) company, for $47 million. This acquisition supports Adani’s goal of enhancing India’s aviation infrastructure and expanding its civil and defense aviation capabilities.

The deal, made through Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Ltd (ADSTL), grants the group an 85.8% stake in Air Works.

Air Works: Market Leader In Civil Aviation

Air Works operates in 35 cities across India and employs over 1,300 professionals. The company offers a wide range of services, including line maintenance, heavy checks, avionics, aircraft painting, and interior refurbishment. It also provides specialized maintenance for the Indian Navy’s Boeing P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft and landing gear services for the Indian Air Force’s Boeing 737.

“Air Works has proven capabilities and an impeccable legacy, having successfully delivered several India-first and industry-first projects. Complementing Air Works’ expertise and services portfolio with the Adani Group’s ambitious presence in both Defence and Civil aviation will create an unassailable entity that possesses a comprehensive suite of offerings, and actively champions nation-building and self-reliance,” Anand Bhaskar, MD & CEO of Air Works Group said, according to PTI.

Adani Acquisition Boosts India’s Aatmanirbhar Initiative

The acquisition supports India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to strengthen domestic capabilities and reduce dependency on foreign MRO services.

“The Indian aviation industry stands at a transformative juncture, now the third-largest globally and on track to induct over 1,500 aircraft in the coming years,” Adani Airports Director Jeet Adani said. “This growth aligns seamlessly with the government’s vision to connect every corner of our nation, creating unprecedented opportunities in aviation services.”

Adani Airport Holdings currently controls Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport. It is also managing six other airports across India, including those in Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangaluru, and Guwahati.
