With the rising global demand for personalised and effective healthcare solutions, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the emirate’s healthcare regulator, is preparing to host leading international figures in health, research, policy, and technology during the upcoming Abu Dhabi Global Health Week (ADGHW), scheduled for 15–17 April 2025.
A key highlight of the event will be the unveiling of a landmark global initiative focused on advancing longevity science and precision medicine. Designed to set a new standard for international collaboration, innovation, and investment in next-generation medical technologies, the initiative aims to promote the global adoption of personalised healthcare and extend healthy lifespans.
This effort comes at a critical juncture. While global life expectancy has now surpassed 71 years, a 9.6-year gap persists between life expectancy and healthy lifespan—meaning many individuals spend nearly a decade living with chronic illness and disability.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of DoH, stated, “We are delivering personalised and preventive health solutions that empower people to live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. Because health knows no boundaries, we are inviting the world to co-create the next era of health, underpinned by collaboration, driven by data and transformative technology such as AI. From Abu Dhabi to the world, we are building an intelligent, integrated health system that scales globally and serves locally.”
Abu Dhabi is emerging as a global hub for healthcare innovation, thanks to its world-class research institutions, forward-looking policies, and strategic investments in AI-powered medical solutions. These advancements are enabling predictive healthcare, enhancing precision treatments, and shaping a more equitable and proactive global health ecosystem.
The emirate’s leadership in the field is already evident. The Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi (IHLAD) was recently licensed as the world’s first Healthy Longevity Medicine Centre. Offering personalised, AI-driven care, the centre is focused on managing chronic conditions, supporting mental health, and extending healthy lifespans through holistic interventions. The emirate has also launched the Healthy Longevity Innovation Forum and introduced the region’s first regulatory framework for longevity-focused medical centres.
The forthcoming initiative will present a comprehensive roadmap for integrating AI-powered diagnostics, genomics-based medicine, and individualised treatment strategies into global healthcare systems.
Key highlights of the initiative include:
- Launch of a global consensus document on longevity and precision medicine
- International commitments to accelerate AI-driven healthcare solutions
- Frameworks for embedding genomics-based healthcare into clinical practice
- Policy recommendations and regulatory models to support innovation
- Strategies for ethical, equitable, and globally scalable medical advancements
