Distinctive Design & Security Features
The new AED100 banknote retains the familiar red color scheme, ensuring easy public recognition, while introducing refined artistic elements. The UAE Nation Brand is embedded through intricate drawings and inscriptions created with advanced printing techniques.
On the front, the note features Umm Al Quwain National Fort, a significant cultural and historical landmark symbolizing the nation’s rich heritage. The reverse side showcases Port of Fujairah, a key maritime hub, along with Etihad Rail, the UAE’s extensive railway network connecting all seven emirates and linking to the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
To bolster security and prevent counterfeiting, the banknote incorporates cutting-edge technology, including SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS and KINEGRAM COLORS, a multi-colored security chip. Additionally, the note is designed with tactile symbols in Braille, ensuring accessibility for visually impaired individuals.
Polymer banknotes are known for their durability and sustainability, lasting at least twice as long as traditional paper banknotes. The introduction of this material aligns with the UAE’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility.
Circulation & Implementation
The new banknote entered circulation on March 24, 2025, alongside the existing AED100 notes. The CBUAE has instructed banks and exchange houses to update their cash deposit machines and counting devices to facilitate seamless transactions using both the new and existing banknotes, which remain legal tender.
The UAE’s commitment to innovation in currency design has been recognized internationally. The CBUAE recently won the ‘Best New Banknote’ award at the 2023 and 2025 High Security Printing EMEA Conference for its AED500 and AED1000 polymer banknotes, praised for their advanced security features and distinctive designs.
