Roger Federer took to X to share a heartfelt message, reflecting on a pivotal moment in his career. He recalled how, after winning the 2004 Australian Open, he reached the world #1 ranking and felt on top of the world. “And I was,” Federer said, “until two months later, when you stepped onto the court in Miami in your red sleeveless shirt, showing off those biceps, and beat me convincingly. All the buzz I had been hearing about you—the incredible young talent from Mallorca, destined to win a major someday—it wasn’t just hype.”
Roger continued, “I keep reflecting on the memories we’ve created together—promoting the sport, playing that unforgettable match on half-grass, half-clay, and breaking the all-time attendance record in Cape Town, South Africa, where we played in front of more than 50,000 fans. We’ve shared so many laughs, pushed each other to the limit on the court, and at times, had to almost literally support each other during trophy ceremonies.”
Vamos, @RafaelNadal!

As you get ready to graduate from tennis, I’ve got a few things to share before I maybe get emotional.
Â
Let’s start with the obvious: you beat me—a lot. More than I managed to beat you. You challenged me in ways no one else could. On clay, it felt like I…— Roger Federer (@rogerfederer) November 19, 2024
