Legendary actor Denzel Washington is set to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming movie Black Panther 3. The news was confirmed by Washington himself while promoting his role in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2. Director Ryan Coogler has reportedly written a specific role for the actor in the film.

The two-time Academy Award winner recently shared his thoughts on his career and upcoming projects. He revealed that he’s excited about this new venture and is now focused on working with talented directors and taking on challenging roles. He’s not worried about box office success or critical acclaim but is more interested in exploring new creative opportunities, Denzel told Australia’s Today during the press tour.

He further said, “At this point in my career, I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make, probably not that many. I want to do things that I haven’t done.” Denzel shared details about his upcoming projects, including a return to the role of Othello, which he first played at age 22, a portrayal of Hannibal, and even a collaboration with director Steve McQueen on a future film.

Washington lastly took a pause: “After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m going to do the film Othello. After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.” This news created a buzz on social media. While many wished the actor luck, others expressed that they were always eager to see his work. Washington’s involvement in Black Panther 3 is particularly significant due to his close relationship with the late Chadwick Boseman.
