Dubai’s landscape is transforming into a vibrant oasis, with 2.5 million flowers and 6,500 trees now adorning the city as part of an AED245 million “Green Dubai Project” aimed at beautifying key intersections along Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR) and Al Khail Road. This initiative by Dubai Municipality seeks to enhance residents’ quality of life and create a greener, visually appealing environment.

The expansive project covers nearly 1.5 million square meters, blending modern urban design with sustainable green spaces. Advanced irrigation systems are used across these areas to optimize water consumption, underscoring Dubai’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Key Areas of Beautification

Sheikh Zayed Road

Four major beautification projects now line Sheikh Zayed Road, including intersections with Al Yelayes Street and Al Jameel Street, and stretches from Umm Suqeim Street to Al Yelayes Street. Over 843,000 square meters were landscaped, showcasing 1.5 million flower and plant seedlings, 3,500 trees, and extensive soil mulching to prevent erosion and enhance the area’s natural beauty.

Al Khail Road

Three large-scale planting projects beautified intersections on Al Khail Road, including areas around Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, and Umm Suqeim Street. Over 625,000 square meters were planted with 1 million flowers and 3,000 trees, alongside nearly 144,000 square meters of soil mulching.

Sustainable Planting for a Greener Future

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted the project’s goals: “These initiatives demonstrate our dedication to developing green infrastructure, enhancing residents’ quality of life, and optimizing natural resources through smart irrigation systems that ensure responsible water use.”

Implemented under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s greening initiative is a long-term commitment. In 2023 alone, Dubai expanded its green space by 234 hectares and planted over 185,000 trees.

Dubai’s efforts mark a blend of natural beauty with urban modernity, positioning the city as a leader in sustainable urban planning and environmental stewardship.
