The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has launched the fourth generation of traditional abras, aimed at enhancing the emirate’s marine transport system. This initiative aligns with the RTA’s goal of providing exceptional services to daily users of this transport mode, improving integration with the wider public transport network, and boosting marine tourism, in line with Dubai’s popularity as a global tourist destination.

Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, explained that this upgrade is part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to improve services and ensure passenger comfort. The new abras have been redesigned to increase capacity to 24 passengers, up from 20 in the previous generation, in line with the Dubai Design Code for safety and health. The design also includes enhancements to the interior, such as upgraded chairs, floors, and spaces for passengers with disabilities.

The new ferries were built to the highest quality standards, incorporating technical upgrades such as real-time data screens, safety information displays, and destination boards. These improvements are expected to boost the number of marine transport passengers and strengthen the city’s public transport network.

In developing the fourth generation of heritage ferries, the RTA prioritized security, safety, and environmental standards. The authority also secured special certifications for safety regulations that adhere to Gulf specifications in the field.
