As summer draws to a close, parents and students in Dubai are preparing for the start of the new school year. Most children will be back in classrooms as early as August 26, 2024. It’s time to get those lunch boxes packed and uniforms ironed! Here’s a comprehensive list of the school holidays for the 2024-2025 academic year and some important dates to mark on your calendar.
Dubai’s private schools follow different academic calendars depending on their curriculum. Schools are allowed some flexibility, provided they meet the minimum required number of school days—188 days for the Ministry of Education (MoE) curriculum and 182 days for international curriculums.

Important Dates:
- August 26, 2024: Start of the 2024-2025 academic year
- December 16, 2024, to January 6, 2025: Winter break
- March 24, 2025, to April 7, 2025: Spring break
- June 27, 2025: End of the academic year (not before this date)
For those attending Dubai private schools that start their academic year in April:
- August 26, 2024: Return to school after the summer break
- December 16, 2024, to January 6, 2025: Winter break
- March 2025: End of the school year (schools can close any day in March 2025, as long as they complete a minimum of 182 days)

Upcoming Public Holidays:
The next public holiday in the UAE will be the celebration of UAE National Day, now referred to as Union Day. According to the UAE Cabinet resolution, both the private and public sectors will enjoy a two-day holiday on December 2 and 3, 2024 (Monday and Tuesday). This means that those with weekends off will have a four-day weekend to enjoy.
