One school in Dubai has come one step closer to winning one of the most prestigious awards globally, particularly for the environmental action category. The Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, or DIA EH, is now one of the top three contenders for the World’s Best School Prize for Environmental Action.
This is a big feat for the school which is one of many educational institutions globally vying for the top prize which offers $50,000 that is around AED183,500. The prize money will be divided among the winners for five categories. The winners will be announced in October.
What gave the Dubai school an edge over the rest was its student-led e-waste recycling campaign. More than 5,000 students, parents, and staff members came together to collect a 1,000 kg of e-waste during World Environment Day.
“I am filled with immense pride to see our students’ work recognized on an international level. Being shortlisted in the top 3 is no small feat and is a testament to their hard work and dedication,” said Hitesh Bhagat, principal of DIA EH, in an interview to Khaleej Times.
The five World’s Best School Prizes — founded by T4 Education in collaboration with Accenture, American Express, and the Lemann Foundation — are some of the world’s most prestigious education prizes.
