Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open a new two-lane bridge on Al Khail Road this Sunday, October 13, as part of the Al Khail Road Development Project. The 610-meter-long bridge, located between the intersection of Al Meydan Street and Ras Al Khor Street, will improve connectivity for motorists heading towards Deira, offering a streamlined route with increased capacity for up to 3,200 vehicles per hour.
Boosting Capacity and Reducing Traffic
The new bridge is the fourth of five major bridges being constructed to enhance traffic flow along the bustling Al Khail Road. The project involves building 3,300 meters of bridges and widening lanes over a 6,820-meter stretch to accommodate the growing number of vehicles using the highway. According to Hamad Al Shehhi, director of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, the bridge will help alleviate congestion and reduce lane weaving by providing separate lanes for those heading towards Deira and Ras Al Khor.
Additionally, surface road improvements have been completed over 1,550 meters, further easing traffic between Al Khail Road and Ras Al Khor Street.
30% Reduction in Travel Time
The Al Khail Road Development Project is set to significantly impact Dubai’s traffic management. Upon completion, it will expand the capacity of intersections and bridges along the road by 19,600 vehicles per hour, ensuring smoother traffic flow and reducing travel times by 30%. Al Khail Road, one of Dubai’s busiest highways, serves over 1.5 million residents and handles more than 300,000 vehicles daily.
The project will benefit several key areas along Al Khail Road, including Zaa’beel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Al Jaddaf, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle, improving the daily commute for residents and motorists.
Fast Turnaround for Major Infrastructure
The swift completion of this bridge, along with three others opened recently, highlights Dubai’s commitment to fast-tracking essential infrastructure. The previous bridges, which are now operational, include one in Zaa’beel linking Al Khail Road to Financial Centre Street, another in Al Quoz 1 connecting to Al Waha Street, and a third near Hessa and Al Khamila Streets serving Jumeirah Village Circle.
The final bridge in the development project, located between Latifa interchange and Meydan interchange, is expected to open next week, marking the completion of the Al Khail Road Development Project.
This series of infrastructure upgrades will play a key role in keeping pace with Dubai’s rapid urban growth, ensuring that major roads like Al Khail Road can accommodate rising traffic demands efficiently.
