The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) successfully upgraded marine transport stations in 2024 to comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code for an Accessible Environment, ensuring improved accessibility for People of Determination.

This initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to becoming a city that is inclusive and supportive of People of Determination by addressing their needs and promoting safe, seamless mobility. RTA remains dedicated to making all public transport facilities accessible and inclusive, reinforcing the Dubai Government’s vision of a people-friendly city.

The upgrades also ensure full adherence to the Dubai Code for marine transport stations, providing comprehensive services tailored to meet accessibility requirements.

Khalaf Belghuzooz Al Zarooni, Director of Marine Transport at the Public Transport Agency, RTA, stated, “In 2024, we completed the upgrade of eight marine transport stations across Dubai. The improvements focused on enhancing connectivity between facilities, docks, and open areas to ensure safe and independent mobility for People of Determination as well as the broader community,” reports the Khaleej Times.

The enhancements include improved night-time lighting, installation of handrails and handgrips, and upgraded flooring with safety and security markings in line with maritime standards.

To support individuals with hearing challenges, the stations are now equipped with loudspeakers to provide clear and direct information about schedules and marine transport trips.
