The Philadelphia Eagles delivered a commanding performance on Sunday to win their franchise’s second Super Bowl title, overpowering the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 and ending their bid for a historic three-peat.

Defensive Brilliance Stifles Mahomes

The Eagles’ defense put relentless pressure on Patrick Mahomes, forcing the superstar quarterback into uncharacteristic mistakes. The game-changing moment came in the second quarter with two critical interceptions.

The first, by Cooper DeJean, was returned for a touchdown after Mahomes failed to spot him while scrambling away from the relentless Eagles pass rush. The second interception came when edge rusher Josh Sweat disrupted Mahomes’ throw, causing an off-balance pass that linebacker Zach Baun snagged at the Chiefs’ 14-yard line. The turnover allowed Philadelphia to extend their lead to 24 points just before halftime.

“After a while, it’s just like – cannot go wrong with us right now,” Sweat said. “I said this is just that day. It’s just who’s it gonna be, that’s all it was.”

Hurts Delivers MVP Performance

On the offensive side, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts put in a career-defining performance. The fifth-year quarterback set a new Super Bowl record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 72 yards while also completing 17-of-22 passes for 221 yards. His poise and control under pressure earned him Super Bowl MVP honors.

Eagles Take Control Early

The game started with some controversy, as an offensive pass interference call on A.J. Brown nullified a big first-down catch for the Eagles. However, Philadelphia soon found their rhythm, striking first with their signature “tush push” play to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs offense struggled to gain momentum, with Mahomes unable to connect on key passes. Kansas City’s frustration was visible as they were forced into multiple three-and-outs.

Eagles’ Defense Seals The Win

The Chiefs attempted to regroup after halftime but continued to struggle against Philadelphia’s dominant defense. Even when given opportunities, Kansas City’s playmakers failed to deliver, with DeAndre Hopkins dropping a wide-open pass late in the second quarter.

With their offense unable to gain traction and the Eagles executing flawlessly on both ends, the Chiefs’ historic three-peat bid came to a crashing halt.
