On March 27, the UAE’s Fatwa Council urged Muslims across the country to observe the crescent of Shawwal on Saturday evening, March 29, marking the 29th day of Ramadan. Those who spot the crescent moon are requested to report their sighting to the committee for official confirmation.
The sighting of the Shawwal Moon signals the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the most awaited festival, Eid Al Fitr, one of the auspicious celebrations in the Islamic calendar. Countries worldwide are preparing for the moon sighting, with forecasts indicating that Eid will likely fall on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

However, according to the UAE’s Astronomy Centre, spotting the crescent moon on that evening may not be feasible in most regions. The center released a visibility map outlining areas where the moon is most likely to be seen. It further explained: “Moon sighting on this day will be impossible in the eastern regions and unachievable across the Arab and Islamic world, regardless of observation methods—whether by the naked eye, telescopes, or astrophotography.”
Based on astronomical calculations, Ramadan is expected to last a full 30 days, meaning the final fast will take place on March 30, and Eid Al Fitr will likely begin on March 31.
The UAE government has already announced Eid Al Fitr 2025 holidays for both public and private sector employees. Residents and especially working employees are gearing up with plans to make the most of this long weekend, likely a good long 5-day break. There’s so much happening in the region, from 90% off on brands to deals at restaurants, so there’s something for everyone.
