Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has reportedly bought a sprawling Texas compound worth approximately $35 million, with the aim of creating a centralized home base for his 11 living children and two of their mothers. According to The New York Times, Musk acquired a 14,400-square-foot Tuscan-style mansion near Austin, along with an adjacent six-bedroom property. The move is part of Musk’s plan to keep his younger children close to one another and to allow him more time with his family, the Times reports.

Public records reveal that the properties are just a 10-minute walk from Musk’s main Austin residence, making it convenient for him to visit. Sources close to Musk say the billionaire is focused on establishing a more cohesive family setting.

Musk, who has 12 children with three different partners, has been open about his commitment to spending time with his children. His first child, Nevada Alexander Musk, tragically died in 2002 at 10 months old due to sudden infant death syndrome. Musk went on to have five more children with his first wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson: twins Vivian and Griffin, born in 2004, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian, born in 2006. Musk and Wilson were married from 2000 until their 2008 divorce.

In 2020, Musk had a son named X Æ A-Xii with musician Claire Boucher, known professionally as Grimes. The couple later had two more children, Exa Dark Sideræl, born via surrogate in 2021, and Techno “Tau” Mechanicus, born in 2022. Musk and Boucher were never married but had an intermittent relationship from 2018 to 2021.

In 2021, Musk also welcomed twins Strider and Azure with Shivon Zilis, a project director at one of his companies. Their third child, born earlier this year, remains largely undisclosed, with the baby’s name and gender yet to be revealed publicly.

With this property purchase, Musk appears to be creating a unique environment to accommodate his large family, allowing his children and their mothers to reside near one another.
