Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced plans to visit India later this year, following a virtual meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The conversation, which took place on Friday, touched upon key areas of mutual interest, including innovation, space technology, and sustainable mobility.

Calling it an “honour” to speak with the Prime Minister, Musk shared the update on the social media platform X, expressing excitement about his upcoming visit. “Looking forward to visiting India later this year,” he posted, while resharing Modi’s message about their productive exchange.

In his post, PM Modi reiterated India’s dedication to deepening strategic partnerships with the United States, especially in fields like space, artificial intelligence, and advanced technology. “Our conversation built upon the topics we discussed during our earlier meeting in Washington, D.C.,” the Prime Minister noted.

That meeting, held in February during Modi’s U.S. visit, included Musk and his children. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, their dialogue focused on expanding collaboration between Indian and the American tech sectors, with particular emphasis on sustainability and cutting-edge research.

Tesla’s long-awaited entry into the Indian market appears to be nearing, with Starlink -Musk’s satellite internet venture- also eyeing expansion in the country. Discussions are ongoing with India’s Ministry of Commerce regarding investment and regulatory frameworks for Starlink services.

Despite signing agreements with Indian telecom giants like Jio and Airtel, Starlink’s operations are currently paused due to pending approvals linked to national security and spectrum allocation.

The developments signal a strengthening of economic and technological relations between India and Musk’s ventures, potentially paving the way for greater collaboration in emerging technologies.
