Digital asset platform Fasset has introduced the ORO token, enabling UAE investors to access digital gold in smaller, more affordable increments. With investments starting as low as $1, the company claims ORO offers higher returns compared to traditional market options.
This marks the first application developed on Fasset’s Ethereum Layer 2 network, Own, in collaboration with The Own Foundation.
“The minimum investment to buy ORO tokens is as low as $1, significantly lowering the barrier to entry for gold ownership. This allows users to own gold by purchasing only a small portion of it for a low price. Each ORO token represents one ounce of 99.99 percent fine gold, securely stored with blue-chip custodians and fully insured,” Daniel Ahmed, COO and co-founder of Fasset and Own, told Khaleej Times.
Fractional Gold Ownership
Fasset, which is backed by $26.7 million in funding, announced that ORO tokens can be redeemed for physical gold starting at increments of $85 or exchanged for USDC, with a one-day lock-in period. For staked tokens, the lock-in duration may vary, though future pools aim to enable near-instant trading. Offering fractional gold ownership, the ORO token will be available to early investors in the first quarter of 2025. The company also revealed plans to tokenize $1 billion worth of yield-bearing gold within the first year.
“With digital gold, people can buy in smaller increments at a lower price and redeem their tokens for fiat or USDC anytime, anywhere. This makes it much easier to access and manage compared to traditional gold,” Ahmed said.
Blockchain For Accessible Gold Ownership
Gold has become even more vital as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. Markets like India have doubled their central bank gold reserves since 2008, highlighting its growing appeal. However, traditional gold ownership remains expensive and inaccessible for many due to high entry costs and storage complexities. ORO solves these issues by using blockchain technology to provide secure, fractionalized gold ownership with minimal fees and no need for physical storage.
