Travelers on flydubai’s Boeing 737 MAX planes are set to enjoy a significant boost in cabin baggage space, thanks to a new agreement between the Dubai-based airline and aircraft manufacturer Boeing. The deal, announced at the prestigious Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX), will see 21 of flydubai’s modern 737 MAX aircraft retrofitted with Boeing’s innovative Space Bins.
More room for your carry-on
The upgrade to Space Bins promises to alleviate the common struggle for overhead storage on busy flights. Each of these larger bins is cleverly designed to hold up to six standard-sized carry-on bags by allowing passengers to place them on their edge. This marks a substantial 50% increase in capacity compared to the current standard bins, which can typically accommodate only four bags.
Committed to passenger comfort
Daniel Kerrison, Senior Vice President of Inflight Operations at flydubai, emphasized the airline’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the passenger experience. “Since commencing operations in 2009, we have remained dedicated to investing in product innovation and elevating our passengers’ inflight experience,” said Kerrison. “By having Boeing’s larger Space Bins on our 737 MAX aircraft, this will provide our passengers with added convenience and increased storage space that rivals the experience offered on a wide-body aircraft.”
Boeing also highlighted the importance of this upgrade for passenger satisfaction. “Passengers are making the connection between bin capacity and the extra room they need and expect for their carry-on bags,” stated Doug Backhus, Vice President of Cabin, Modifications and Maintenance at Boeing. “We are proud to partner with flydubai to bring Space Bins capability to their existing 737 MAX fleet.”
flydubai currently operates a young and efficient fleet comprising 88 Boeing 737 aircraft, with a significant portion, 59 planes, being the advanced 737 MAX models. These aircraft serve flydubai’s extensive and growing network of over 130 destinations across 55 countries spanning Africa, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Central and South-East Europe, the GCC and the Middle East, South Asia, and South-East Asia.
This investment in larger overhead bins signals flydubai’s dedication to providing a more comfortable and convenient travel experience for its passengers as it continues to expand its global reach. The retrofit program will be a welcome development for frequent flyers and those traveling with carry-on luggage.
