Tributes Across Party Lines

The news has triggered a nationwide wave of grief, with leaders from across the political spectrum offering their condolences. Prominent figures, including BJP President JP Nadda and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, rushed to the hospital upon learning of Singh’s critical condition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to honor Singh’s legacy, recalling their interactions:

“Dr. Manmohan Singh ji and I interacted regularly when he was PM and I was the CM of Gujarat. We would have extensive deliberations on various subjects relating to governance. His wisdom and humility were always visible. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the family of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, his friends, and countless admirers. Om Shanti.”

The Prime Minister also shared a series of photographs showcasing his time with Singh.

Manmohan Singh, an eminent economist and politician, served as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Renowned for his pivotal role in liberalizing India’s economy in the early 1990s as Finance Minister, Singh was a key architect of India’s modern economic landscape.

In his 33-year tenure in the Rajya Sabha, Singh represented Assam and later Rajasthan, becoming one of the most respected figures in Indian politics. His leadership during the global financial crisis of 2008 and his advocacy for economic reforms left a lasting impact on the nation.

Social media platforms have been flooded with tributes from political leaders, citizens, and international dignitaries, underscoring Singh’s legacy as a visionary economist, statesman, and humble public servant.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon, with state honors likely to mark his final journey. As India mourns the loss of one of its most accomplished leaders, Singh’s contributions to the nation’s progress remain etched in history.
