Google DeepMind co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis has predicted that artificial intelligence could potentially eliminate all diseases within the next 10 years.

Speaking during an interview on CBS’ 60 Minutes, Hassabis emphasized the transformative impact of technology on human health in recent years and outlined how rapidly advancing AI models could revolutionize medicine even further. “As AI models keep developing in a rapid manner, they could not only help cure diseases, but might even bring an end to all of them,” he said.

The interview quickly gained traction on social media, with industry leaders echoing Hassabis’ optimism. Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas voiced his support on social media, stating, “Demis is a genius and he should be given all resources in the world to make this happen.”

Hassabis has recently spoken in various forums about the leaps AI has made in understanding protein structures—a key element in drug design and disease treatment. In a conversation with LinkedIn CEO Reid Hoffman, he revealed that AI had successfully predicted the structures of 200 million proteins in just one year—a feat that he said would have taken humans “around a billion years of research time.”

The comments have ignited discussions around the future role of AI in healthcare, with many hailing it as the next frontier in global medicine.
