It’s just a week before the New Year’s 2025 approaches and the UAE is abuzz with endless options to celebrate the occasion – be it lavish dinners and parties or stunning fireworks displays. However, a growing segment of the population is opting for a different kind of celebration, focusing on self-care and meditation instead of the usual festive bustle.
Earlier this week, The Finance 360 reported that 30% of expats in the UAE have flown back to their home countries to celebrate the festivities. Now, experts believe that a portion of residents are also seeking a break from the fast-paced, ambitious life, opting for self-care to ring in the New Year.
Claire Garabedian, Founder of Empower Minds Guide, shared her thoughts on the trend, saying, “While self-care and relaxation have undoubtedly gained popularity, especially among working expats in Dubai, New Year’s celebrations here often lean towards grand and vibrant events. Living in a city synonymous with luxury, many people look forward to big celebrations, iconic fireworks, and lively gatherings to mark the occasion.”
However, she emphasized that there is a niche group that prefers a calm, low-key approach centered on self-care and mindfulness. “With the increasing awareness of mental health and wellness, some might choose to celebrate the New Year with yoga, meditation, or even a serene retreat,” Claire added. She believes that in a city as dynamic as Dubai, there is space for both the opulent celebrations it is famous for and quieter, more reflective alternatives.
Irina, Co-Founder of Sage Wellness & Yoga Center, echoed these sentiments, noting, “We’ve seen a growing trend of people in Dubai choosing self-care-focused celebrations, like yoga and meditation, over traditional parties. This shift reflects a desire to start the new year with calm and mindfulness, prioritizing well-being over extravagance.”
The UAE is just moving towards a fast-paced routine, where working employees are taking time to focus on themselves. However, it’s a personal perspective on how individuals want to celebrate. Nevertheless, health always remains a priority over everything else.
