Legendary actor Jackie Chan will be honoured with the prestigious Career Achievement Award at the 78th edition of the Locarno Film Festival 2025, which is set to take place from August 6 to 16, organizers announced on Tuesday.
Chan not only has had a magnificent career as an actor, but he has garnered love and praise from around the globe for his directorial prowess as well. Some of the films in his kitty include classics such as The Fearless Hyena (1979), Police Story (1985), and Who Am I (1998).
Meanwhile, his acting skills made him Asia’s top-grossing action star of the 1990s.
Giona A. Nazzaro, the artistic director of the festival, praised Chan’s magnanimous contribution to cinema, saying, “Director, producer, actor, screenwriter, choreographer, singer, athlete, and daredevil stuntman — Jackie Chan is a defining figure in contemporary Asian cinema and a trailblazer whose impact has reshaped Hollywood filmmaking.”
Nazzaro further highlighted Chan’s “early training” at the China Drama Academy under Master Yu Jim-Yuen and his work as a young stuntman in King Hu’s iconic film A Touch of Zen, noting his continuous innovation within martial arts and action cinema.
The Locarno Film Festival, held annually in Switzerland, previously honoured Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan with the same lifetime achievement award, also known as the Pardo alla Carriera or Career Leopard, at its 77th edition, making Khan the first Indian recipient of the accolade.
