During the Los Angeles Clippers’ media day, Kawhi Leonard hinted that his knee injury might be a chronic issue, raising concerns about his long-term availability. Leonard emphasized that his primary focus for the 2024-2025 season will be to manage his health, especially with an eye toward staying fit for a potential playoff run.

Cautious Approach for the Playoffs

Leonard acknowledged his cautious approach to the season, explaining, “Everything has been going great for the past month. But being very cautious for reasons in the past. I haven’t been able to finish some playoff runs. So, making sure I stay healthy for those important moments.” His main goal is to ensure he can contribute during the playoffs, a time when his presence has been limited due to injuries in recent years.

Solid Regular Season, Playoff Struggles

Despite playing 68 games last season and averaging 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, Leonard’s playoff appearances have been scarce, with only four games over the past two seasons. He earned an All-Star spot during the 2023-2024 season but was limited to just two post-season games due to injury.

Preparing for a Full Season

Leonard opted out of the USA Olympic team, focusing instead on preparing for the Clippers’ season and managing his minutes. The Clippers finished with a 51-31 record last season but were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Dallas Mavericks, 4-2. Leonard is determined to stay healthy and push the Clippers deeper into the postseason this year.
