Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is officially in the running for the US 2024 presidential election. The current Vice President and Democratic candidate formally accepted the Democratic nomination to serve her only client, “the people.” Harris reinvigorated her middle-class roots and addressed themes of patriotism and unity as foundational pillars of her campaign and political ethos. The American Vice President also ensured to spotlight America’s most “serious threat,”Ā  Republican nominee Donald J. Trump.

Harris will continue Biden’s Gaza war policies.

In her 45-minute address to Democrats across the nation, Harris stressed that “President Biden and I [Harris] are working around the clock because now is the time to get a hostage deal and ceasefire done,” with regards to growing tensions in Gaza. Harris reiterated the US stance on the tense geopolitical crisis, pledging to ensure Israel “always has the ability to defend itself” against future aggression. Harris’ Democratic National Convention saw hundreds of active pro-Palestine outside the venue, raising their voice against decisive American policies that will determine the future of peace in the Middle East.

The biggest night for America’s Democratic icons

The Democratic National Convention serves as the 2024 most-awaited Democratic photo-op, as celebrated Democrats such as former first lady and president Michele Obama and Barack Obama, congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), and television sensation Oprah Winfrey graced the stage to strengthen the Harris charge for president. AOC spoke emphatically in support of Harris, calling Democrats in Chicago to “help her [Harris] win because we know that Donald Trump would sell this country for a dollar if it meant lining his own pockets and greasing the palms of his Wall Street friends.”

Former first lady Michelle Obama reminded Democrats and Americans at large of the “contagious power of hope” in the US while endorsing Kamala Harris as a “true representation of what it means to be an American.”

Harris’ vision for the USĀ

Immediate demographic surveys from after the convention point toward its overall success, as Harris tactfully captured three key groups, including union members, Black voters, and Republican-leaning independents who stand against another Trump presidency. Harris told crowds of Democrats that ā€œWe are charting a new way forward, forward to a future with a strong and growing middle class,” weaving her own past into the collective narrative of the fractured American middle class. The current vice president intends to create an “opportunity economy” within which “everyone has the chance to compete and a chance to succeed, whether you live in a rural area, small town, or big city,” added Harris.

Since her informal nomination for the Democratic ticket by President Joe Biden in July, the Harris campaign has raised upwards of $500 million. Kamal Harris reinforced her focus on women’s rights, alluding to Roe v. Wade and the primitive Republican stance on the critical social matter.
