Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group and Tata Sons, passed away on October 9. At age 86, the Indian business mogul cemented Tata’s footprint on the global stage after serving as its chairman for more than two decades. With Tata’s sudden hospitalization and subsequent demise, a big question has taken centerstage: who will sit at the helm of Tata Group?

The next generation of Tata heirs, Leah, Maya, and Neville Tata are coming to the forefront. The children of Noel Naval Tata, Ratan’s Tata’s half brother, these younger Tatas are steadily rising the ranks in the multi-billion dollar Tata ecosystem.

Leah Tata, Ratan Tata’s oldest niece, is the Vice President at The Indian Hotels Company Limited, the group’s hospitality arm that runs several iconic hotels across India. She began her career at Tata Group in 2006, as an assistant manager at Taj Hotels.

Neville Tata, Ratan Tata’s only nephew, is the brains behind Star Bazaar, a profitable retailer under the Tata Group umbrella. Neville is married to Manasi Kirloskar, who is also considered a strong candidate for future leadership within the Tata Group.

This leads to the youngest Tata in the running, Maya Tata. Maya leveraged her business acumen to propel the launch of Tata’s Neu super app. She began her career in the conglomerate at Tata Opportunities Fund and Tata Digital.Â
