Lando Norris took a major step in the Formula 1 title race on Sunday, September 22, by claiming victory at the Singapore Grand Prix. This marked Norris’ third career win, bringing him closer to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who finished second in the standings for the world championship.
The McLaren driver dominated the race, finishing 30 seconds ahead of Verstappen. Teammate Oscar Piastri completed the podium in third place, helping McLaren extend their lead in the constructor’s championship with just six races left in the season.
Starting from pole position for the first time in his career, Norris maintained the lead for most of the race, showcasing impressive speed. By lap 26, he had already opened a 20-second gap over Verstappen, cementing his control of the race.

“It was an amazing race,” Norris said afterward. “There were a few too many close calls, but it was well managed. The car was incredible. I could push the whole race, and by the end, I was able to relax a bit.”
The Marina Bay Circuit saw an unusual event for Formula 1—a race without incidents or safety cars over the course of its 62 laps, adding to the intensity of Norris’ triumph.
As the season nears its conclusion, Norris’ victory not only narrows the gap in the driver’s standings but also strengthens McLaren’s bid for the constructor’s title.
