In a shocking move, a US employer fired 99 employees via Slack for missing a morning meeting. The mass firing was revealed through a message posted by the boss, identified as Baldvin on a messaging platform, where he gave employees an ultimatum: “Leave his business.”
Baldvin’s note was direct stating: “For those of you who did not show up to the meeting this morning, consider this your official notice: you’re all fired. You failed to do what you agreed to, you failed to complete your part of the contract, and you failed to show up to the meetings you were supposed to attend and work for.”
He added that all agreements with the fired employees would be canceled, ordering them to return any company property, sign out of accounts, and remove themselves from the company’s Slack workspace immediately.
In a follow-up note, Baldvin expressed his disappointment: “I gave you an opportunity to make your life better, to work hard, and to grow. Yet, you have shown me that you don’t take this seriously. Out of 110 people, only 11 were present this morning. Those 11 get to stay. The rest of you are terminated.”
The incident has sparked online debates, with one user saying, “If you have a business where you can fire 90% of your employees on the spot, the company never had this many employees to begin with, by any credible evidence,” while another commented, “It’s becoming increasingly difficult to navigate corporate policies these days. How is anyone supposed to take a proper break?”
